Recently we completed a workshop clearance near Leek, Staffordshire which included a large private collection of woodworking planes.
The collection uncovered during this clearance included over 350 planes, each with its own story to tell. From beautifully aged wooden body planes to rare infill planes.
The planes vary in origin, spanning several hundred years of design and purpose. Stanley, was clearly the weapon of choice for this collector with a large number of Stanley 45, 46, 50 and 55 Combination Planes forming a significant part of the collection. There are also many other makers marks including Record, Sargent and GTL.
Many of the planes are in good condition, showing only the expected wear from decades of honest work. There is also a significant amount of part-restored or completely unrestored projects, add into this a large quantity of spares and bits and we have a task ahead of us to finish assembling, cleaning and preparing the tools for their next owners.

This find is a significant boost in our inventory & we are happy in the knowledge that we have saved another collection of tools that will now be passed on to new owners who will covet and hopefully put the tools back to work as they were intended.
